In order to ensure the safety of LPG consumers at all times, the Oil Industry in India has started a novel scheme in 1990. This scheme is called The Emergency service cell (ESC).
The ESC operates after office hours of the LPG distributorships and on Sundays and other General holidays, when the LPG distributorships are generally closed. The ESC operates at all cities and towns, which have more than one LPG distributorships of any PSU Oil Company. The services rendered by the ESC are free of cost to the LPG customers of any of the PSU Oil Companies.
The responsibilities of the ESC are to attend leakage of LPG from Cylinder or the Regulator only. ESC does not carry out servicing of hotplate or replacement of rubber tube and other spares in the LPG hotplate. In other words, the role of ESC is emergent in nature and will attend to only those items which if not attended too immediately, could endanger life and property.
The PSU Oil Companies and the distributors jointly do the funding for the functioning of the ESC in India. While the Oil Companies pays 50 % of the cost, all the distributors for whose area the ESC operates equally share balance of the 50 %.
